ALFREDO MONTANE 1999
Christmas Songs from Latin America

Olivia Molina first encountered Alfredo Montané in México City in summer 1983. She had no idea at the time that this musician was to nurture her subsequent musical development in this song form. Whether as arranger, conductor, musician or adviser, he has been involved in each one of the CDs she has made since 1985. Olivia Molina has now made 17 tours of Germany, Belgium and Switzerland with Alfredo Montané and his instrumentalists. For weeks they worked together in the recording studio to commit one of the greatest collections of Christmas Songs from Latin America to CD.

Olivia Molina has for a long time been considering how she could express her thanks to Alfredo Montané for sharing his skills and his talents with her; the upshot is the CD "Alfredo Montané y los Cantores de América", truly convey-ing to the listener the whole spectrum of his musicality.

PORQUE TE AMO 1999
Songs and Ballads

Olivia Molina's aim with this CD was to avoid dodging the task of putting her own progress as a musician on record. The new elements of today's music landscape have helped to shape her as an artist, and here she departs for a moment from her own previous home country as a musician. Nevertheless, she selected her Spanish mother tongue for this production, thus demonstrating that music knows no language barriers. All these songs were written by Olivia Molina during two years of concentrated effort. These are lyrics of abundant feeling, with a little touch of poetry too, yet they are also simple texts of a kind to be found in everyday speech.

LATIN LATIN LATIN 1993
Latin American Evergreens

Already played by her father and his orchestra "Los Hermanos Molina", in Europe in the Thirties and Forties, these wonderful songs were with Olivia Molina throughout her childhood. "Perfidia" and "Frenesí" were written by the Mexican composer Alberto Domínguez, "Maria la O" by Ernesto Lecuona from Cuba. The song "Angelitos Negros" was penned by the Cuban writer Andrés Eloy Blanco. Songs such as "Te quiero dijiste" and "Cuando vuelva a tu lado" by the Mexican author María Grever are today world hits. And who could fail to be familiar with the song "Amor Amor Amor" by the Mexican composer Gabriel Ruiz. The title "Sabor a mí" by Alvaro Carrillo, another of México's most important composers, may not have attained the degree of recognition in Europe of "Quizás Quizás Quizás" by Osvaldo Farres and Joe Davis. An-other automatic choice for this CD was "Maria Elena" by Lorenzo Barcelata, another member of the elite among Mexican composers. Olivia Molina's musical memory actually starts with the song "Bésame mucho" by the woman composer Consuelo Velázquez. SINCERAMENTE 1990
Songs and poetry from Latin America

Latin America has awakened from a slumber persisting for several centuries and is today displaying its whole potential of creativity and talents. Names such as Pablo Neruda, José Martí, Violetta Parra, Victor Jara, Horacio Guarani, María Elena Walsh, Daniel Viglietti or Pablo Milanés have long been among the most significant standard-bearers of this cultural break-out. Some of them, indeed, have become symbolic of the intellectual liberation of Latin America. Olivia Molina turned to works by precisely these authors in choosing the repertoire for her programme "Songs and Poetry from Latin America". In tackling this ambitious project, she enjoyed the assistance of master instrumentalists from Argentina, México and Uruguay, led by Alfredo Montané, and together they ensured a resounding and varied accompaniment for the songs.

MARIACHI 1987
Folklore from México

What could be more natural than for Olivia Molina to record a CD of Mariachi songs? For years now, she has been in pursuit of her origins and the further she advances along the way, the larger the scale of the country maps she has been using for this journey into her own past. Olivia Molina is discreetly matter of fact in singing these Mariachi songs, combining caution and confidence, like somebody returning to her birthplace after a protracted absence and re-maining a stranger in her mother tongue for just a few phrases. Olivia Molina has never before sung so beautifully, so unpretentiously - so correctly, one might almost say - as she does here. Her voice is just right. Here, in these Mariachi songs, you need only to listen, she is truly at home.
